     GLOSSARY OF BASIC STEPS FOR BEGINNERS
   
     I HAVE INCLUDED SOME OF THE BASIC STEPS BUT OTHERS CAN BE FOUND ON THE LINEDANCER WEBSITE UNDER "INFORMATION" IN THE MENU, THEN "DANCE EXTRAS".
   
     GLOSSARY OF LINE DANCE TERMS
I have described the steps mainly leading on the right foot (R) but most can be done the same way leading on the left foot (L), i.e. right sailor step or left sailor step.
 
 BRUSH
 
 Brush the sole of your foot against the floor either forwards or backwards.
 
 CHARLESTON
 
 1 	Step forward L,
 2 	Kick R foot forward,
 3 	Step back onto R foot,
 4 	Point L toe back
 
 COASTER STEP
 
 1  	Step back R
 &  	Step back L
 2  	Step R forward
 (Back, together, forward)
 
 FANS
 
 Swivelling the foot through 45 degrees on either the ball or the heel of the foot
 
 GRAPEVINE
 
 3 step pattern -
 1 	Step R to right side
 2 	Cross L behind
 3 	Step R to right side
 Usually finishing with a touch, scuff, brush or kick.
 
 HITCH
 
 Lift your knee up with lower leg forward slightly
 
 HOOK
 
 1 	Dig R heel in front
 2	Bend R knee in front of L shin with R toe 	pointing towards the floor.
 
 IN PLACE (ALSO CALLED HOME AND TOGETHER)
 
 Feet together at the start of a dance (1st position)
 
 JAZZBOX
 
 1	Cross R over L
 2 	Step back L
 3 	Step R to right side
 4 	Step L next to R
 
 KICK BALL CHANGE
 
 1 	Kick R foot forward
 &  	Put weight onto R in place
 3 	Put weight back onto L foot
 
 LOCK
 
 Slide one foot behind the other with ankles crossed.
 
 MONTEREY TURN
 
 1	Point R toe to right side
 2	Turn 1/2 turn clockwise on ball of L foot
 and step R next to L and change weight
 3	Point L toe to left side
 4	Step L next to R
 
 PIGEON TOES (HEEL SPLITS)
 
 With feet together (1st position) move heels apart keeping toes in place and bring heels back together.
 
 PIVOT
 
 A 1/4 or 1/2 turn to the left in 2 beats.
 1	Step forward R
 2	Turn over your L shoulder and keeping
 balls of feet on the floor turn to face the
 opposite direction and change weight to the
 L foot (for 1/2 pivot, only move 1/4 for 1/4 pivots)
 
 SAILOR STEP
 
 1	Cross R foot behind L
 &	Step L to left side
 2	Step R to right side
 
 SCISSORS
 
 1	Step R foot to right side
 2	Step L foot next to right foot
 3	Cross R foot over L foot
 4	Hold
 
 SCUFF
 
 Sweep your foot forward, scuffing the heel of your shoe/boot on the floor
 
 SHUFFLE
 
 1	Step forward on R foot
 &	Bring L up behind R
 (L instep to R heel - third position)
 2	Step forward on R foot
 
 SUGAR FOOT
 
 1	Point R toe to L instep
 2	Dig R heel next to L instep
 3	Cross R foot over L
 4	Hold
 
 TWINKLE (In a waltz)
 
 1	Turn body slightly right and cross L over R
 2	Step R small step to R
 3	Turn slightly left and put weight onto L
